Not gonna deny that I'm old school, using a monitor from 2014 and a keyboard from highschool.
Depending on your ISP, IRC is still faster than torrents, with much lower risk for us Americans.
I appreciate IRC, but when all the people I used to be with in IRC switched to discord, it became kinda obsolete.
How "independent" is IRC? Like, if discord is down, it's down. IRC isn't a a central system like discord, is it? So that might be an advantage still.
irc is an open protocol that has been usee for ages. You can install it on any plateform provided someone wishes to compile to sources.
It is available for most server OSes and you find a multitude of clients.
