The same thing that happened to Buster & Duel, they were removed in order to sell more model kits of new mechas in their place [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif[/img]

Storywise, though, I'm guessing it got scrapped since Alex Dino aka Athrun never planned on piloting a mobile suit again.
