So what animes are you currently watching dude?
Main shounen ones, like Naruto and Bleach, but I also watch To Aru Majutsu no Index and Claymore. Some animes that perks my interest at the moment are Hyakko, Kannagi, and Ga-Rei Zero.
I believe having a terrible memory won't hamper your stay at all, quite the contrary... Being able to forget all the offenses is a great skill.
