Gundam Wing was the first anime I really enjoyed that I knew was anime. And it still stands out over other shows that aired around that time like Outlaw Star, because it actually made me think in a way that I couldn't just say, "oh, this is a badass cartoon".
DBZ was badass, but even when i was young i got horribly pissed off at the amount of time dedicated to power-ups and peanut gallery commentary. not to mention when it was aired on the local network (WB11, or WPIX, can't remember what it was called then), they kept getting up to certain dumb points in the Namek arc and then suddenly going back to the Vegeta and Nappa one... God that pissed me off something fierce...
I also enjoyed Sailor Moon for a while, up until Berhle got whacked and they introduced those weird Tree spirit people...
However, the animated work that left me with no sense of shame for enjoying animated medium as a maturing adolescent wasn't an anime. In fact, I can say that this show is the one reason I returned to anime years after it aired. It's, in my opinion, the best American cartoon ever.
EXO-Squad
Goddamn was that a piece of work.
Humans are different from animals. We must die for a reason. Now is the time for us to regulate ourselves and reclaim our dignity. The one who holds endless potential and displays his strength and kindness to the world. Only mankind has God, a power that allows us to go above and beyond what we are now, a God that we call "possibility".
