    Lazarus

"The year is 2052 – an era of unprecedented peace and prosperity prevails across the globe. The reason for this: mankind has been freed from sickness and pain. Nobel Prize-winning neuroscientist Dr. Skinner has developed a miracle cure-all drug with no apparent drawbacks called Hapuna. Hapuna soon becomes ubiquitous... and essential. However, soon after Hapuna is officially introduced, Dr. Skinner vanishes.

Three years later, the world has moved on. But Dr. Skinner has returned – this time, as a harbinger of doom. Skinner announces that Hapuna has a short half-life. Everyone who has taken it will die approximately three years later. Death is coming for this sinful world – and coming soon.

As a response to this threat, a special task force of 5 agents is gathered from across the world to save humanity from Skinner's plan. This group is called "Lazarus." Can they find Skinner and develop a vaccine before time runs out?

An "adequate premiere" is the best compliment I can give it. Watanabe is aping western cinematography again and the results are smoother than ever, if his own thumbprint feels lighter as a result. Animation is decent but clearly 'budgeted' for action versus talking scenes, so par for the course...

Not a huge fan of the dub, and Axel is kinda cringy as a character, but the pieces fit, and most importantly work for the story. Revealing the entire task force is convicts was an interesting twist, and forgives why Axel was scouted in the first place (all is not as it seems). By the second episode, we can see the investigation itself may be episodic and free form which is what I would have expected from the show runner alone.

Now that the band-aid of expectation has been peeled off by the pedestrian premiere, I can take this show for what it is and enjoy accordingly.

Perfectly watchable, but doesn't spark any excitement in me, which is such a pedantic thing to complain about... We get ever so slightly closer to Dr. Skinner via... grandma's desserts and a hacker/DJ's insider trading?

Also, please do tell us Christine... how many roofies must one imbibe to develop a tolerance?

    Episode 7:

This would be a run-off-the-mill, middling, mildly interesting anime, but the hype really soured me on it. This episode was a perfect example of this: None of the characters behave in any way like proper adults, they have the same, usual anime-mannerism that countless other anime feature. The story really is at best mildly interesting, and the art and animation aren't special either. But because this is with Netflix or whatever and they give it an "international" feel, plus "made by Cowboy Bebop-mangaka", it's supposed to be that great. It isn't.

If I ignore all that baggage, it's still not a great anime, but good enough to keep me watching.

"She's the only non-loli girl in the show, your honor!" will be my defense in court
