What Social Media Do You Use and Why?

I've been wondering about the people still here in GW, most of which are pretty damn old and have been around since prior to social media.

Do you use or have you used social media? If so, what are they?

Why do you use them? For family, networking, dating, hobby information, etc?

How do you use them? Lurking, posting, moderating, etc?

I only actively use Reddit, and I don't really have an account to login with. I have an inactive account I used many years ago to post the web novels I've written, but for years now I just lurk in Popular without logging in to see what is going on and what makes it to the front page. I also have an FB to post my web novel, similarly inactive. Both use my pen name, so they are not really associated with my real life in any way.

I have an inactive Instagram account my wife made for me 8 years ago and do not really touch it.

What about you guys?

Facebook, been really helpful for me a few years back, got me a whole circle of friends and helped me grow as a person.

I have Instagram, but it's mostly for looking at pictures of cosplay, and I only post nature photos there. I also have linkedin, but I only use it for job searching.

I don't think whatsup counts, but I also use that a lot (family chat, close friends chat, work chat, army chat... etc).

never got into Twitter/X/Threads/Blue.Sky, and I don't use forums other than gotwoot.

Only reddit and youtube I guess? If that counts?
It's all infested with human garbage, but youtube for music and reddit for gaming stuff.

On reddit I comment, on Youtube I do sometimes too but it's not like you can actually engage with someone there.

I thank every day that I am old enough to have email addresses that didn't mandate binding a cell phone number to them in order to sign up/obtain accounts.

Facebook - real name. Use it for messaging my few friend/s and family. It's the current final form of MSN messenger. I waste time scrolling through content on it at times. It's useful for stalking photos of people when they post. In the past few years or so it's been a huge source of manga/anime spoilers unfortunately. More recently I've found it to be a good source for learning colleague's names/faces. I've worked with some for years and never actually committed their names to memory.

Reddit - I have one or two accounts. You need an account to view some posts that are flagged as NSFW. I probably have <10 posts on them because I just use this to supplement anime/car forums, to look for opinions regarding computer stuff or about where my work field is heading/issues etc.

Youtube - to keep a history list of videos in case I want to revisit them, and to subscribe to channels I'm interested in. Also to upload gameplay video to my friend. I use Twitch infrequently for the same reason.

Youtube. I post a decent amount of comments there. Although I don't really know how much is much on Youtube, but about once every other day or so. I never uploaded a video, though.

I basically only visit Reddit if a googling result brings me there, looking for an answer to some problem/question, so I don't have an account. No Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram. I have a Discord account, but I only use it for the voice chat when playing games with friends.
